Shaddock Homes – The Right Home, Right Now

Shaddock Homes specializes in creating custom luxury

Even as a kid, there was little doubt what direction Peter Shaddock, Sr. would take with his career as an adult.
“I liked to build things. I was always a builder and I always knew what my profession was going to be when I became an adult” he said. In grade school, Peter built tree houses in his parents’ yard and in his friends’ yards. During high school, Peter would skip school to build house boats on the Sabine River in Orange, TX.

Peter’s major was Residential Construction Management at Texas Christian University. So it’s little surprise that in 1967, he chose to start a homebuilding company.

And nearly a half-century later, that company – Shaddock Homes – is a go-to provider in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for customers seeking a luxury custom home whose innovative and inspiring designs and exterior and interior craftsmanship distinguish it from others across the Metroplex.

The market, Shaddock said, has changed dramatically over the years.

“When I started my homebuilding business, there were few large production building companies. Most of the companies out there were custom builders building one to ten houses a year. “Now things have changed and most of the houses are built by large production building companies.” Today, Shaddock Homes is a large production building company building over $100,000,000 in homes a year.

Shaddock Homes’ philosophy is to build homes that today’s people would want to live in and is evident across all its projects. An attention to detail and an ability to understand homebuyers’ has allowed creation of functional, open floor plans that include space for individuals alongside integrated family areas. Its homes accommodate today’s most requested features – including a clean-lined design style, energy efficient materials and beautiful private baths for every bedroom in the house.

“One reason that everyone considers Shaddock Homes always at the top of the market is that we’re the best at everything, including keeping up with the changing market,” said Shaddock, who’s both the company’s namesake, and its president and chief executive officer. “We’re considered to be the most progressive home builder. Our homes reflect the latest that the home building industry has to offer. You’ve got to stay ahead of the market if you want to be the best.”
Because a home is the foundation for a family’s lifestyle, Shaddock Homes strives to make sure every new home meets its buyer’s expectations. The company builds in some of the region’s most desired locations and within its most highly regarded school districts. New homes and communities located in Allen, Celina, Dallas, Frisco, Murphy, St. Paul and Parker and are designed to reflect the way today’s families and individuals live. Each home gets personal attention to ensure the commitment and Shaddock stands behind every new home with a warranty program sponsored by Bonded Builders Warranty Group.

“People are always going to want to move, and you’ve got to have what they’re looking for,” Shaddock said. “The reason people move is to improve their lives. They’re changing something for the better and we can be a part of that.” Beth said.

Shaddock has spent much of his time in the business cultivating relationships and establishing a reputation not only for quality, distinction and craftsmanship of the homes, but for the quality and integrity of the name itself. These days, the company is a dominant local family homebuilder that has the characteristics of a smaller builder with the financial strength of a national enterprise.

“Today, our commitment to building exceptional homes is a family shared responsibility,” he said. The day to day operations of Shaddock Homes is run by Peter’s oldest son, Peter Shaddock Jr., and Beth Shaddock Cesare, Peter’s daughter. “We have a team of dedicated, proficient and courteous professionals who work diligently to build homes that will be enjoyed for years to come. We take as much pride building your home as you will in owning it. Our sense of responsibility and pride translates from the best built home into a home backed up by extraordinary customer service. Our home buyers tell us all of the time they will recommend Shaddock Homes to a family member or friend.”

The company currently employs a workforce of 55 employees. We built 162 homes in 2014 and plan on building 200 in 2015.

It’s most typical customer is between 35 and 50 years old, has a family with several children and is a move-up buyer, usually purchasing a second or third home.

Beth Shaddock Cesare, the company’s director of marketing and design, said customers these days enter the process with far more information and savvy than they might have a generation ago with Pinterest, Houzz, etc.

“They’re certainly more educated than they used to be,” she said. “The level of detail that they’re seeking is so fine-tuned. They can research anything and see what they want online, and then they come in with full-color profiles of what they’re looking for, not Xerox copies. It’s a fun challenge for us to keep up with all the looks they’re trying to achieve in a room. They want the latest thing.”

Peter Shaddock Jr., the company’s director of construction operations, said recent in-house corporate initiatives have seen the company’s field operations rely more on paperless automation to pay its contractors, which makes the process faster and more efficient with less personnel.

We rely on the Shaddock Homes quality control employee to walk thru all finished homes before prospective buyers visit our homes. This is a measure aimed at creating top of the line quality control.

“A business is either going up or going down,” Shaddock said. “Businesses do not go sideways.” We always keep Shaddock Homes going up even in a down turn of the market.

The Shaddock operation officially became a family of companies in 2013, when it spun off Saxony Homes – an operation which caters to customers seeking smaller homes on smaller lots and at a lower price point.

Five floor plans on Saxony’s website range from 3,372 to 3,706 square feet and include starting prices from $350,000 to $469,900. Meanwhile, the largest home on the Shaddock website measures in at 6,228 square feet and 18 of the 40 floor plans available include 4,000 square feet or more and priced up to $900,000.

“We’ve always been known as the top of the market in the home building business, and many times, land developers will seek us out to purchase lots in their exclusive subdivisions. The Saxony business will allow us to compete in other markets that we currently do not compete in.” “We’re trying to build more and better houses and expand the business into areas where it’s profitable to do so,” Shaddock said. The Shaddock family development company, Shaddock Development, owned by Peter and his brother, William C. Shaddock, develops many of the lots that Shaddock Homes builds on.
