Paso Robles Tank, Inc. (PRT) is a full-service tank contractor and an industry leader in the engineering, fabrication, civil construction, tank erection, repair and maintenance of shop and field-erected carbon, stainless-steel aboveground storage tanks, specialty vessels, and industrial painting /coatings. PRT has 300+ employees among three shops and several field projects within the Western U.S. – a 36,000-sq.-ft. facility in Paso Robles, CA; a 55,000-sq.-ft. facility in Hemet, CA; and a 45,000-sq.-ft. facility in Sparks, NV (strictly Stainless Steel facility).

Industries served by PRT include, and are not limited to, petroleum, agriculture, thermal energy storage, food & beverage, wine, beer, chemical, petrochemical, water & wastewater, pipeline, aviation and pulp & paper industries. While its offices are in Western USA, the field capacity has extended throughout the United States of America to Guam, Africa, Australia, Djibouti, and Antarctica.
PRT is a wholly owned subsidiary of Associated Construction and Engineering, Inc. (ACE), a premier specialty tank company with independent subsidiaries. Each subsidiary is unique and collectively with years of experience, provides their services to tank clients in an array of industrial markets, government, and public utilities, nationwide. ACE is also a parent company to Associated Civil Constructors, Inc. (ACC); West Coast Industrial Coatings, Inc. (WCIC); and Associated Tank Constructors, Inc. (ATC) which is their union branch of field tank repairs/construction.
Paso Robles Tank, Inc. has three distinct divisions within: Carbon Steel (CS) Aboveground Storage Tanks (AST), Stainless Steel (SS) ASTs, and Coatings. Shane Wombles is the President of Industrial Group for all CS work which includes recent projects such as (2) 115,000bbl internal floating roof tanks in Port Lavaca, Texas to (02) 90,000 bbl. Stainless Steel ethanol tanks in St. Charles, LA to (16) various sized API and AWWA tanks for State of California’s largest solar plant in Mojave, CA. PRT carbon side averages $36+ million per year in revenue. Shawn Owens is the CEO of PRT and managing director of all SS shop and field work. PRT primary SS projects are to wineries, dairy, beer, olive oil, chemical, and fertilizer facilities. PRT built each of last couple years $9+ million dollars full SS wine tanks in Livingston and Napa, CA which included 70+ field SS tanks each contract. No job is too big, nor too small, for PRT to build.
Shane Wombles, adds, “PRT is SSPC QP1 (Complex Structures) – QP2 (Hazardous Materials Removal) – QP3 (Certified Shop Coatings Applicator) certified; Steel Tank Institute/Steel Plate Fabricators Associations (STI/SPFA) nine years in a row water tank of the year award recipient, and several of our staff are actively involved and part of national standards committees from SPFA to AWWA to API. PRT takes pride in having experienced, educated, and certified staff to assure safety, quality, and timely performances on all our work. Some of PRT certifications are in Certified Welding Inspectors, NACE Certified Coatings Inspectors, Civil & Structural Engineers, NCCCO Certified Crane Operators, and OSHA Train the Trainers.

“In addition, PRT is able to offer our turnkey services to not only include full tank design, engineering, CAD, shop fabrication, shop coatings, field erection, and field coatings on all your tank needs, but PRT is able to extend that turnkey service for site grading, foundation, piping, fencing, electrical and other site work via our sister company Associated Civil Constructors, Inc. (ACC), which is also owned by our parent company, Associated Construction and Engineering, Inc. (ACE). With our synergy between the business units, it enables us to control and manage the projects successfully versus handing off to different outside contractors. The fact that we’re owned by one parent company working for the same common goal, allows us to meet schedules and be extremely cost-competitive.”
Since its founding in 1989, PRT’s ultimate goal has been to set the standards in the carbon welded steel tank industry. As part of its continued investments, in 2016, the company entered the bolted tank market with the launch of its Bolted Tank Division. Its bolted tanks are designed to AWWA D103 standards and are a specified alternative to field-welded and coated tanks. With a streamlined and fully automated coatings line and the support of its in-house engineering staff, it allows PRT to provide the best bolted tank in the industry, suitable for water/wastewater, dry storage and/or fire protection water applications.
Going forward, Wombles says that “PRT’s future goals are to continue to focus on safety; continuing education to promote cutting edge technology to our office, shop, and field crews; and expand our geographic footprint into the Gulf Coast Region.” PRT strongly feels that at the end of the day, for a project to succeed, owners and operators need a company they can rely on to minimize costs while upholding Paso Robles Tank’s motto: Safety + Quality = Production.
