Top 10 – Top Sustainable Businesses in New Jersey

In celebration of Sustainable Jersey’s 10yr anniversary (and upcoming conference), Business View is highlighting the corporate community – big and small entities – who are helping keep the Garden State green. We ended up with ‘Top 10 plus 1’ because we couldn’t miss Rutgers University!

  2. EPV SOLAR epvsolar.com An energy company that designs, manufactures, and markets thin-film amorphous silicon solar modules, which capture energy from sunlight.
  3. GO GREEN DISPLAYS gogreendisplays.com Go Green manufactures trade-show exhibit booths and displays using sustainable materials that either have recycled content or are themselves recyclable.
  4. Atlantic Health System https://www.atlantichealth.org Atlantic Health System is a member of the New Jersey Sustainable Business Registry, with five of its medical centers recognized. Their leadership has pursued recycling and energy saving policies from grassroots employee efforts to large-scale construction projects. They also have an employee green team that initiates eco-friendly projects throughout the healthcare system.
  5. New Jersey American Water https://amwater.com/njaw New Jersey American Water is the largest water service provider in the state, serving approximately 2.7 million people in 190 communities. Five of their water treatment plants, have been nationally recognized with Directors Awards for participating in the U.S. EPA’s Partnership for Safe Water program.

Prudential https://www.prudential.com/links/about/sustainability As part of Prudential’s corporate social responsibility commitments, the company has focused on urban renewal and education in the City of Newark, where they are based. We recognize their work to support and implement Newark’s social and environmental actions that advance quality of life for all.
  7. Bristol Myers Squibb https://www.bms.com/about-us/sustainability.html When it comes to environmental stewardship, Bristol-Myers Squibb is a leader. The company has increased its efforts to preserve natural resources, focus on opportunities to reduce packaging, and save energy and water. From 2009 to 2012, Bristol-Myers Squibb reduced its total annual greenhouse gas emissions by about 28,000 metric tons.
  8. Bayshore Recycling http://www.bayshorerecycling.com/ Bayshore Recycling (Bayshore) is an award-winning leader in the recycling industry and champion for the environment, reintroducing materials into the economic mainstream while reducing the volume of material deposited in New Jersey’s landfills. The Company is a model of sustainability.
  9. TerraCycle https://www.terracycle.com/en-CA/ a New Jersey-based sustainable company that recycles materials previously viewed as non recyclable. What started as an initiative to convert worm droppings into plant fertilizer has since transformed into a leading global waste management firm.
  10. Natural Systems Utilities https://www.nsuwater.com/Natural Systems Utilities has made our selection of the Top Sustainable Companies in New Jersey and is based in Hillsborough. NSU is an emerging national leader in water reclamation and reuse innovation.
  11. Rutgers University https://sustainability.rutgers.edu/ We can’t discuss sustainability without mentioning the biggest university in New Jersey.
