The Art of Redefining Excellence in Digital Infrastructure

Exploring a Joyful Approach to Connectivity and Company Culture

In the often-demanding world of digital infrastructure, JOYinc.  stands out as an industry trailblazer, thanks to its revolutionary approach that prioritizes joy as the foundational principle for business success.

This unique philosophy, championed by Chief Joy Officer Clif Peterson, transforms every aspect of traditional company operations, from internal team dynamics to client interactions and community engagement.

In doing so, JOYinc.  brilliantly demonstrates that a business built on the pursuit of joy can achieve remarkable growth and have a profound impact.

Practically speaking, JOYinc.  is continuing to expand and diversify its service offerings into commercial and residential construction.

The company also embraces the cutting edge and effectively integrates early AI adoption into project management and testing to maintain its technological edge.

This foresight allows JOYinc.  to capture new market opportunities with greater agility.

However, the deepest impact on the company’s productivity and retention is by far the continued investment in its unique culture.

JOYInc.’s mandatory life coaching and supplementary personal development programs are directly tied to compensation, resulting in a highly skilled and motivated workforce.

Additionally, reinforcing its “radical truth, radical transparency” policy has created fully internal financial openness, unparalleled trust, and an ownership-minded team of individuals who are as personally accountable as they are productive.

Plus, the company’s bold “wholeness and wellness” initiatives, including incentivized workouts and counseling, help reduce absenteeism and further boost overall productivity.

This holistic approach, coupled with the company’s highly collaborative model with trusted partners such as True North, Taylor Made, and Ideal Power, ensures both consistent service quality and operational resilience.

JOYinc.  isn’t just building digital infrastructure; they’re meticulously constructing a blueprint for a more positive, human-centric way of doing business that sets a new standard for industry leadership.

Joy, Wholeness, and Wellness as an Operating System

JOYinc.  was born from Founder and Chief Joy Officer Clif Peterson’s profound question, “What if we pursued joy in business rather than making money or fame as the primary focus?”

Since then, JOYinc.  has produced an environment where personal and professional development is not just encouraged, but intrinsically linked to growth and performance.

“It hasn’t eliminated the challenges of business, but seeing things through what I call Joy-colored glasses reframes things and gives a new perspective on every challenge that we do face,” Clif explains.

Whether it’s interpersonal challenges with employees, subcontractors, suppliers, or even clients, this philosophy has equipped JOYinc.’s employees with the necessary perspectives to overcome those obstacles.

This approach highlights how the company transforms potential setbacks into opportunities for growth and strengthens relationships, proving the practical efficacy of its unique philosophy in real-world business scenarios.

“We’ve gained more JOYinc. fans from our failures because the joy ethos and philosophies guide us through those failures. So, for us, it has become a very practical operating system,” Clif clarifies.

JOYinc.’s company culture is also intentionally cultivated around the concepts of personal and professional development, a core value that directly attracts and retains its top talent.

“I like to say that we’re a life coaching company that specializes in personal and professional development, and we live that out through the platform of a wireless telecom construction company,” Clif states.

Clif, a certified life coach, implements mandatory life coaching sessions and requires employees to read personal and professional development books and write essays on them.

“Those books as essays are tied to their promotions and raises at JOYinc. ,” Clif says, explaining that this approach, while avant-garde, doesn’t come as much of a surprise to his employees.

The primary hiring criterion for prospective candidates is growth-mindedness, so the company’s culture is populated by individuals who are already committed to continuous self-improvement.

Philosophies like “I will work on me for you,” “the spirit of reciprocal play,” and “wholeness and wellness” guide JOYinc.’s internal interactions, resulting in a collaborative and supportive environment where employees understand that they are whole beings who work together to make each other better.

The greatest result of this, however, is the extreme ownership mentality that permeates the company’s culture, where the goal, as Clif expresses, is to cultivate “50 ownership-minded people” rather than a single owner and 50 workers, recognizing that the marketplace rewards practiced ownership.

Additionally, JOYinc.’s “wholeness and wellness” value extends beyond mental growth to physical health as well.

JOYinc.  incentivizes employees and their immediate families to turn in three workouts a week at a specific heart rate for a set period, offering a monthly $100 incentive to support gym memberships or fitness gear.

The company advocates for a proactive, preventative healthcare model, exploring alternatives to traditional sick-care approaches, and even counseling services for issues beyond life coaching, covering a number of sessions for employees.

Safe and Comprehensive Digital Infrastructure Services

Headquartered in Tacoma, Washington, on a five-acre property that includes four acres of yard space, a 40,000 square foot warehouse with a 2,500 square foot office, and a complete indoor tower training facility, JOYinc.  commands a robust operational footprint.

“Our primary business for the past eight years has been in the wireless sector working directly for companies like Verizon, T Mobile, AT&T, Dish, American Tower, Crown Castle, and then about four dozen other smaller entities, and government entities,” Clif explains.

The company’s scope of work in wireless communications is comprehensive, covering everything from site surveys and site preparation to road construction, foundations, steel erection, technology installations (including antennas, radios, and ground-based equipment), DC power systems, backup battery systems, and generators.

JOYinc. operates as a full-scope, turnkey contractor, managing projects from inception to completion.

The company currently employs approximately 50 team members and operates across about 25 states, boasting a coast-to-coast presence.

These are states where JOYinc.  holds General Contractor licenses, enabling it to handle underground utilities, in-building DAS Systems, C-RAN Systems, small cell, and microwave systems.

“We also do some commercial construction, signs, billboards, and EV charging stations. We’ve recently branched into doing some residential construction as well. So, custom home building, remodeling, and flipping houses, buying rehab houses, and the like.  It’s basically service diversification to mitigate the workflow challenges that exist in the wireless space, and it works exceptionally well for us,” Clif says proudly.

Furthermore, structural modifications form the third largest segment of their workflow, encompassing tower maintenance, guy wire swaps, structural upgrades, steel upgrades, foundation upgrades, and structural reinforcements.

Regardless of the type of work being done, JOYinc. adopts a radical yet profoundly honest approach to safety protocols for its employees, referred to as “Safety Third.”

This policy acknowledges the inherent hazards of working in high-risk industries, and Clif explains that while companies often prioritize “safety first” for liability reasons, JOYinc.  embraces the reality that workers are willing to engage in hazardous tasks for economic return.

The core of Safety Third lies in personal accountability. “Part of our safety third protocol states that workers have to write their loved ones’ names on their hard hats with a Sharpie,” Clif explains.

This visual reminder—whether it’s a spouse, children, parents, or siblings—serves as a constant, deeply personal motivation for self-preservation and conscious decision-making in hazardous environments.

A Radical Commitment to Truth and a Better Tomorrow

A cornerstone of JOYinc.’s distinct culture is its commitment to truth and transparency.

“We operate with what we call radical truth, and radical transparency. Internally, we’re 100% transparent with our business and financial decisions and reports. Anybody at JOYinc. can see any part of our finances at any time; All they have to do is ask, and we’ll show them what they want to see,” Clif states.

This ethos also guides its external interactions, ensuring honesty and integrity with customers, suppliers, and subcontractors.

This level of transparency builds profound trust and aligns with its overall philosophy of being radically truthful in all aspects of its business, creating a foundation of credibility that distinguishes it in the industry.

In fact, that credibility serves as the backbone that bolsters JOYinc.’s highly collaborative model with suppliers, vendors, and partners.

The company’s radical truth and transparency, coupled with humility, enables it to navigate circumstances where it may not have immediate answers with significant ease and understanding.

JOYinc. is always willing to ask questions and seek expertise from the right people to ensure the quality and reliability of service across all projects.

They highlight key partners, such as Talley and Newave, for material supplies and maintenance in the wireless sector.

Companies like Newave Tower Components, Ehresmann Engineering and Valley Fabrication are frequently sought out as top tower engineers and fabricators.

Lastly, electrical and crane powerhouses such as Ideal Power Inc. and Gig Harbor Crane deliver mission-critical expertise, their capabilities keep complex telecom projects energized, connected, and on schedule—cementing their role as indispensable partners in JOYinc.‘s success story.

All things considered, it’s clear that JOYinc.  isn’t merely a participant in the digital infrastructure space; it’s an active shaper of its future, guided by its unique philosophies.

By prioritizing the holistic well-being and growth of its employees, cultivating transparent and strong external partnerships, and embracing radical honesty in all its practices, JOYinc.  sets a compelling example for its entire industry.

In a world increasingly reliant on robust digital connectivity, JOYinc.  proves that true leadership lies in building both exceptional infrastructure and an equally exceptional human experience.

What further innovations and transformations will emerge as JOYinc. continues to prove how genuine joy is the most powerful engine for sustained excellence?
