Talking Business:
Wendy Nicklin
30 minutes with the president/CEO of Accreditation Canada
BUSINESS VIEW: Regarding the history of the orga-
nization, when things got started, what were some
of the catalysts that led to the creation of the orga-
nization?
WENDY NICKLIN:
It actually came out of a joint ini-
tiative with the U.S. in the early 1900s, when some
surgeons identified the need for standards beyond
clinical care – for things like medical records, admis-
sion practices, etc. The U.S. section incorporated as
the Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation, and
Canada incorporated as the Canadian Commission on
Hospital Accreditation in 1958.
