Note
Taking center stage in our North American
edition for December is an in-depth feature
piece on H&H Homes, a North Carolina-based
operation that began as an entity catering to
largely military markets in Fayetteville and
Jacksonville before branching out to serve
families, retirees and other customers.
It was created in 1992 by Ralph and Linda
Huff, out of an awareness that a massive
cadre of U.S. Army soldiers from Fort Bragg
would be entering the housing market upon
returning home from the initial Persian Gulf
conflict.
“What happens around here when there’s
that kind of redeployment home is that you’ve
got a lot of soldiers who have had tax-free in-
come and expendable income built up from
savings and they’re ready to spend it,” said
Jack Rostetter, now the company’s chief ex-
ecutive officer.
“First they spend it on cars, then they spend it
on other things, then they spend it on houses.
He started getting into homebuilding about
that time because he expected there to be a
pretty good upside, and there was. That was
why he started then. It was completely under-
served and other people were not anticipat-
ing this wave of new sales, and he got in at
the right time.”
Check out the full-length H&H Homes piece
as well as other feature stories in this month’s
issue, alongside supplemental content in the
form of Top 10 lists, the Opening Lines sec-
tion and the second edition of our end-of-
magazine feature – “Exit Interview” – which
will include snippets from one of the month’s
best interview conversations.
Please feel free to contact me with any com-
ments or critiques, as well as suggestions for
ways we can continue to provide a publica-
tion that’s pertinent, educational and enter-
taining.
Until next month…
