Going the extra mile, or the extra scan,
to protect and invest in the City’s future
The City of Escondido East Valley Parkway /
Valley Center Road Street Widening Project
mitigates traffic by widening two key roadway
segments and a bridge of highly unusual
design.
Engineers at NV5 not only met design
challenges, including avoiding impacts to a
shallow, 37-inch water main near the bridge,
but the team went further by delivering a
High Definition Laser Scan. This 3D imaging
technology provides the City a precise,
digital record for future maintenance and
improvements.
NV5 engineer’s forward-thinking roadway
improvements also anticipated parks and
future trails along the alignment and were
designed tohave the streetscape incorporate
natural water quality filtration measures and
transition from ornamental urban landscape
to more natural rural areas.
Along with the innovative 3D Laser Scan,
NV5 “right sized” roadway improvements
by eliminating a costly retaining wall and
environmental impacts.

Engineering explained:
From assisting the City with preparation
of the grant application for this $6 million
project (funded by the Highway Safety
Improvement Program) NV5 was committed
to exceeding expectations for the City from
start to finish.
“We appreciate NV5’s work to refine this
project’s alignment with a consideration for
value engineering. This work will ultimate-
ly lead to a better project design.”
