The town is reconstructing historic buildings to attract retail businesses, recently opened an RV park to boost tourism, and is repurposing an old train depot into a workforce development center in partnership with Lenoir Community College. “They’re doing a lot of reconstruction to some old buildings so that they will bring some retail to that area, which will bring sales tax revenue back to the county and the town,” Smith says.
