218 219 SOUTH JORDAN, UTAH S outh Jordan,Utah, in Salt Lake County, was founded byMormon settlers in 1859, and became incorporated as a town in 1935. Primarily a rural, agrarian commu- nity, by the end of the last century, housing began replacing farmland, and the metropolis grew as a bedroom community of Salt Lake City, some 18 miles to the north. Its current population is a bit over 71,000; the greater Salt Lake City area is home to two million.
