There’s no better advertisement for transit than having a whole bunch of people sitting in traffic and the bus goes right by them in its own lane. Some of those people sitting in their cars are going to look at that bus and say, ‘Next time, I’m going to be on that bus.’” Reage says that changes are coming faster and better, now that Halifax Transit is working more closely with other parts of the transportation network. “I’ve been here 13 years, and it’s the first time I’ve seen all the various transportation departments, the active transportation folks, the traffic engineers, land use planners working so well together,” he enthuses. “We were just scratching the surface with what we were doing before, and we’re excited, now, to have a very collaborative team; everyone is very supportive of trying to encourage more sustainable modes of transportation.
