A celebration of aviation will take to the skies in Roswell in September 2025 as the National Championship Air Races surge to life in their new home. An international aviation spectacle, the National Championship Air Races feature seven race classes, various static and military displays, a STEM zone, merchants, vendors and much more. Dubbed the ‘world’s fastest motorsport,’ the National Championship Air Races take place throughout five days with the championship Gold races happening on the Sunday of the event. The qualifying and final races feature seven classes of airplanes, including: • UNLIMITED: Highly modified World War II-era planes like the P-51 Mustang go headto-head in a battle of speed and precision • JET: Military style jets flying in excess of 500 mph, the fastest of the classes, • T-6: Skill and strategy allow pilots to maneuver these historic planes with ease, a crowd favorite • FORMULA 1: Agility and speeds of 250 mph make these planes a spectacle of the sky • BIPLANE: Nostalgia for those who appreciate a nod to aviation’s humble beginnings • SPORT: Innovation is the name of the game for these kit-built planes, with speeds of 400 mph • STOL DRAG: Drag racing but with airplanes. You’ve got to see it to believe it. In addition to the fantastic aviation feats of the races, fans can witness amazing and death defying feats by some of the best aerobatic pilots in the world. Between high-flying events, be sure to explore the myriad of exhibitors showcasing aviation goods, local crafts and wonderful food. For those looking for an up-close and personal experience, military and civilian vintage aircraft displays feature some of the most remarkable planes in history. The event will also include a large STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) discovery zone, featuring a drone/UAS/UAV display area where visitors can get hands-on and learn about the future of aviation technology.This display goes hand-in-hand with the organization’s scholarship program which provides support to aspiring young pilots. The National Championship Air Races, a weeklong celebration of aviation marvels, will take place September 10-14, 2025 in Roswell for the first time. The event marks a new iteration of the races, following 60 years in its previous location of Reno, Nevada. The 2025 races will feature a new venue, exhibits and displays alongside cherished and well-known aircraft and pilots, encompassed in a timeless legacy.
