Ron Klimisch, son of Wausau Supply Co. co- founder, Conrad Klimisch, started flying out of Wausau Downtown Airport in 1995. He would rent planes from Wausau Flying Service to get to Detroit Lakes, because at that time, you still had to drive through Abbotsford and Chippewa Falls; total drive time was nine hours. Ron was able to fly a Cessna 172 in a little less than three hours. The next facility they opened was in Rochelle, IL because they had an airport. Since then, all facility location considerations required access to an airport. What started with one distribution facility in 1947 expanded to five by the end of the 1990s. Wausau Supply Co.
