But, our industry’s roadmap to success is not with- out a few bumps in the road. When most people hear about “green”building, they refer to LEED, a programwith less than 0.3%market penetra- tion in our residential market and a fraction of the commercial market. In the past 23 years, only two pieces of legislation related to building energy ef- ficiency have become law,while our solar industry has grown to the second largest in the entire coun- try. Consumers oftentimes don’t know they have an energy or performance issue and when they do, they don’t knowwho to call. Building performance is a science, as we like to say, and not everyone can or will get it. And speaking of not everyone getting it, our state has just three green-certified, residential Appraisers that are knowledgeable and capable of accurately valuing energy efficient, green, and high perfor- mance homes. The odds that one will show up at your home to provide an accurate appraisal of the high performance features (including rooftop solar, by the way) that you’ve paid for are basically zero.
