MELTING AWAY THE COMPETITION Founded in 2008 with a clear mission in mind, Salt Depot has become a leader in the manufacturing, packaging, and distribution of superior deicing products over the years. Realizing that there was a gap in the snow removal market and a door that could be opened to further growth, Salt Depot dedicated its operations to the development and shipping of top-quality, premium deicing products throughout the US and Canada. Salt Depot’s parent company, an excavation and landscape company that owned a fleet of 90 snowplow trucks, began to recognize that it was becoming difficult to be stocked with sufficient ice melt to support its operations. To help solve its lack of ice melt reserve, Salt Depot’s parent company commissioned a bagging system to help speed up and streamline its operations. Producing more than its internal needs, Salt Depot was created focusing on the production and shipping of ice melt products to other contractors. While focusing on the local market needs in its first year of operation, Salt Depot had its sights set on a much larger market with much greater distribution potential. By its second year in business, Salt Depot had branched out to regional customers as it focused on its marketing efforts and evolving business model. Now geared towards selling its products to distributors only, Salt Depot could focus on providing an unmatched product and unparalleled customer service. With an array of deicing products that melt away the competition, Salt Depot has added more offerings to its product line including sand and gravel, bagged and packaged in the same production facilities to reach an expanding market base. Other product enhancements include the packaging and distribution of various water softening salts as well as pool salt. Breaking the ice into larger markets, Salt Depot routinely distributes its leading products nationally and into Canada, with a special focus on markets west of the Mississippi River. With the salt for all the company’s products deriving from the natural resources of the Great Salt Lake in Utah, the company can keep its costs down while producing products with sustainability in full view. With no signs of slowing down, Salt Depot’s growth numbers remain impressive. Pool salt sales grew 28% in volume, and in 2023, despite the supply chain woes felt nationally, Salt Depot saw an astonishing increase in volume of 238%. 2024 is yet another banner year for this industry leader with a 22% increase in volume projected. Providing quality products, first-in-class customer service, efficient operations, and the industry model to follow, Salt Depot continues to ‘break the ice’ for future growth.
