What is the JSP Capital Partners origin story? I’ve been a residential real estate developer for 22 years, deploying capital on behalf of high-net-worth clients and families. I founded JSP Capital Partners, an advisory firm focused on alternative investments and advanced tax strategies, to take a more comprehensive approach with my clients. What are alternative investments? Alternative investments are private investment offerings versus publicly traded stocks and bonds. For example, real estate, oil and gas, and private equity. Any well-balanced portfolio should have a portion allocated towards alternatives, however more sophisticated investors like my entrepreneurial clients tend to be heavier weighted in alternatives, as they’re experienced in analyzing risk and identifying high-growth opportunities. How is your investment approach unique? We focus our initial efforts on tax optimization, which involves offsetting capital gains and/or ordinary income taxes. From there, we’ll re-invest those tax savings into a diversified strategy designed to compound growth. After optimizing our client’s taxable income, I explore which investment strategies are most appropriate based on their financial objectives and risk tolerance. For example, clients who are still working are generally looking for more growth-oriented investments, whereas retired clients often prefer income generating investments. In either case, I build diversified portfolios of alternative investments designed to achieve the unique needs of each client. Who is the ideal client for JSP? My clients are predominantly entrepreneurs who have built and scaled their companies. They either have extraordinary income with excess capital beyond their lifestyle needs or they’ve had a liquidity event. I really focus on solving the tax challenge first. The more taxes we can save them, the faster we can compound and grow their wealth. Families who have not only transferred the wealth, but the education and values along with the wealth, are the ones experiencing the greatest success for the 2nd and 3rd generations to continue the family legacy.
