The Airport also has four cor- porate hangars with room for more. “Right now, we have targeted an area on the Airport for two corporate hangars; each one is slated to be a 12,000-sq.-ft hangar with a 1,600-sq.- ft. lean-to attached and parking,” Schrantz reports. “The Authority has taken the position that they would prefer to own those two han- gars and then lease the space out, as needed, either to itinerant customers, or if there’s somebody who wants to lease the whole thing and enter into a long-term lease, they would do that. We’re working on a bond issue, right now, to fund it.” Chesapeake is also home to Horizon Avia- tion, a full-service FBO, providing new Cessna aircraft sales, 100LL and Jet-A fuel, pilot sup- plies, and aircraft rental, repair, and storage services. Horizon Flight Center is a Part 141 Flight School that provides pilot training. EPIX Aviation also provides flight training and aircraft maintenance services. Jet Air Charter is an FAA-certified, Part 135 Charter Operator providing nation-wide service in its Lear 45 jet. The local chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Hampton Roads Compos- ite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol both utilize the Airport facilities, as well. Schrantz relates that the Airport is almost self- sufficient, although, currently, it receives some operational funds from the City of Chesapeake CHESAPEAKE REGIONAL AIRPORT
