INNOVATION IN CATHOLIC EDUCATION Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy High School is a Catholic co-educational college preparatory school in Southwest Ranches, FL. Our 48 acre campus provides a safe learning environment with an emphasis on faith. The school opened in 1998 with approximately 800 students while construction for additional buildings was still underway. The chapel sits at the center of campus , symbolizing the importance of Christ in our lives. Much has changed since those first years. In 2010, Richard Jean was appointed as the school’s second Principal and his vision was a turning point for the school. His vision of providing an academically challenging Catholic education in a safe environment along with the use of technology has led the school to grow and become an integral part of Southwest Ranches. Under his leadership, the student population has grown steadily each year and we currently have over 1700 students enrolled. Mr. Jean now serves as the school’s first President and the 2022-23 school year marked 25 years of our commitment to providing excellence in education and service to our community. Archbishop McCarthy High School is committed to excellence in education and we utilize technology to prepare the next generation of global leaders. We embrace a mission of innovation in Catholic education. We were the first high school in South Florida to be part of a 1:1 iPad initiative and are an Apple Distinguished School. Teaching and learning both happen with the assistance of an iPad with all textbooks and course content delivered digitally. Technology is also used to help ensure the safety of our students and staff. The school has full-time security personnel on staff and volunteer active-duty officers on campus throughout the day. Our security personnel monitor the cameras throughout campus either from the multiple screens in the security office or from their iPads. All doors, external and internal, have access control entry. Students and staff must use their ID to gain entry and all visitors must sign-in at the security office located outside the main entrance. Striving to ensure that our growth meets the needs of our students, course offerings, student activities, and facilities on campus are always evolving. The chemistry lab is under renovation, an indoor practice facility is under construction, and our future plan is to build a theater to accommodate our growing arts program along with additional classrooms. We look forward to continue serving our community through Catholic education.
