As the oldest privately-run business corporation in the state, the company evaluates opportunities to invest in freight rail infrastructure needs and provide statewide growth. The NCRR Invests program is a key driver to proactively serve industries with investments for rail infrastructure to drive economic opportunity. To date, NCRR has committed more than $18 million of its private revenue through this program, resulting in new or expanded locations for 21 manufacturing facilities and supporting the creation of more than 13,500 new jobs. NCRR Invests was a critical component in securing the opening of Siemens Mobility, an east coast manufacturing facility for railroad rolling stock products in Lexington, North Carolina last year. NCRR invested approximately $1 million to assist with the costs of construction and materials needed for the new on-site rail infrastructure operation in Davidson County, bringing 506 new jobs to the area. In addition to NCRR Invests, the North Carolina Railroad Company runs a Build Ready Sites Program (BRS), which assists in the development and marketing of “build ready” rail sites across North Carolina. Local economic development organizations and municipalities can apply for infrastructure and building demolition funding to attract new industries to undeveloped and underdeveloped properties along active rail corridors. In the past two years, NCRR has awarded over $8.3 million to sixteen sites across the state, amplifying and expanding North Carolina’s competitive advantage.
