CATASAUQUA’S INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE The Crane Iron Works, nestled within Catasauqua’s embrace, holds claim to being the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Once a thriving hub of innovation and industry, the Crane Iron Works laid the foundation for the transformative changes that would reshape economies and societies worldwide. Today, as part of a long-awaited Ironworks redevelopment plan, this historic site plays a vital role in shaping Catasauqua’s future, offering opportunities for revitalization and renewal. Yet, amidst the echoes of past glory, Catasauqua has also weathered its share of challenges. From its designation as the “Million Dollar Town,” where the borough raised a staggering sum for the war effort during World War I, to more recent struggles with financial mismanagement and economic hardship, Catasauqua’s journey has been one of resilience and perseverance.
