Each year, SPS opens its classrooms to our emerging teachers, giving them the realworld experience that shapes confident, classroom-ready professionals. In Fall 2025 alone, 11 ODU students are completing placements across the district. That early connection grows into a lasting one. Many ODU alumni, from teachers, specialists, counselors and administrators, now serve in SPS. Their careers often begin in Suffolk classrooms and continue through our graduate and doctoral programs, which are designed to help educators advance into leadership, deepen expertise and meet the evolving needs of their schools. “What continues to define the ODU–Suffolk partnership isn’t just the number of students we place or the programs we offer in the division, but how closely we stay aligned to the district’s needs to help the district fill critical roles with professionals who understand Suffolk’s students and schools,” shared ODU’s Dr. Jamie Colwell, Associate Dean for Strategic Partnerships. “It’s a full-circle collaboration—one that grows stronger each year and reflects our shared commitment to meeting the needs of the community.”
