Both the Marriott and Slaterville communities have historical pioneer roots as early pioneer settlements in Utah in the 1850s. Marriott was first permanently settled in the early 1850s by John Marriott. His grandson, J. Willard Marriott, set the standard of modern hospitality by establishing the Marriott Hotels and founding Marriott International. Slaterville was settled in 1853, named after Richard Slater in honor of his service as an early pioneer. Marriott and Slaterville were incorporated together as a municipality on July 1, 1999.Also in 1999, Marriott- Slaterville City was designated as Utah’s model open space municipality by the Utah House of Representatives. The City is about forty (40) miles north of Salt Lake City and features its open vista of the Wasatch mountain as a gateway to the Northern Utah Ski Resorts of Snow Basin and Powder Mountain. Utah hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics and will again in 2034. Contact Us Utah’s Open Space City
