Fans of the Andy Griffith Show, which aired from 1960 to 1968 on television would know exactly why. Mount Airy is the birthplace of Griffith, the actor who passed away in 2012 at age 86, and for several decades the city has embraced its place in American television lore. The various Andy Griffith Show attractions around town bring more than 70,000 visitors to Mount Airy every year and help add an average of 3,400-plus names to the visitor center registry. Many of those visitors also stop by the city’s Andy Griffith Museum. F
