Montrose, Colorado

FOCUSED ON OUTDOOR RECREATION T he City of Montrose is the county seat and the most populous municipality of Mon- trose County, in southwestern Colorado. It is located in the upper Un- compahgre River Valley, on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains, and is an economic, labor, and transportation waypoint for the surrounding recre- ation industry. In fact, in 2010, Mon- trose made Outdoor Life Magazine’s list of “Top 200 Towns for Outdoorsmen,” because it is sur- rounded by vast stretches of prime scenic lands, includ- ing Black Canyon National Park, the Gunnison Gorge National Conserva- tion Area, and the San Juan Mountains, where visitors can enjoy an endless variety of outdoor activities throughout the year.
