This pattern has been exacerbated by a significant decline in education program enrollment. “About five years ago, there was a 30% decrease in people enrolling in education programs,” Corson explains. “So, what do we do? We’ve increased pay, promoted certification programs to our staff, and developed university partnerships for student teaching placements.” These university collaborations have yielded impressive results. “In my first year, we had maybe five student teachers. Now we’re up to 45 people a year. That’s just connecting with universities and asking them to send their student teachers to us,” says Corson.
