learning community conference in Chicago before the school year begins.“This helps new staff understand our approach to education,” Dr. White says.“We also provide mentorship and quarterly training sessions to ensure a smooth transition.” CAREER READINESS AND REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE In addition to strong educational outcomes, the district prioritizes career readiness. “We’ve established the position of Director of College and Career Readiness to focus on building strong partnerships with local businesses,” Dr. White says. “This allows students to participate in internships, hear from guest speakers, and explore career pathways while still in high school.” One standout initiative is the advanced manufacturing program, which is made possible through grant funding. “We’ve secured state-of-the-art machinery for our high school, giving students hands-on experience in a growing industry,” Dr. White notes. “Students can gain experience operating high-tech equipment such as CNC machines and 3D printers, simulating real-world manufacturing environments. This training provides a direct bridge to employment opportunities upon graduation.” The district has partnered with major corporations, including Amazon and local automotive manufacturers, to create structured pathways for students interested in high-demand technical careers. “With companies like Amazon and automotive manufacturers expanding in our area, we are working closely with these industries to develop tailored training programs,” Dr. White explains. “Students have access to career fairs, work-based learning experiences, and on-the-job training opportunities, ensuring they are workforce-ready before graduation.” New Prairie United School Corporation has also expanded its career-focused curriculum, introducing specialized cybersecurity, healthcare, and entrepreneurship courses. “We want to ensure our students have exposure to diverse career paths,” Dr. White says. “Whether they choose to go directly into the workforce, attend technical school, or pursue a four-year degree, we are committed to equipping them with the necessary skills to succeed.” 6 CIVIL AND MUNICIPAL VOLUME 06, ISSUE 05
