Under that contract, they are helping out with archaeological studies, demolishing buildings that are in the way of the rail line, relocating utilities, doing soil exploration to check for contamination, and relocating trees that are in the way of construction. Leong confirms, “That’s always an enjoyable part, trying to save a tree instead of just cutting it down.” When it comes to technology, the company is now using drones to keep track of projects and monitor progress. The drone footage provides a lot of information, including an overview of neighboring communities. “We’re trying to stay aware of the environment that we’re working in,” says Leong. “There are more regulations today – most are pretty reasonable but trying to keep a truck from taking dust out onto the road is a difficult thing to do, depending on the weather
