6 BUSINESS VIEW MAGAZINE VOLUME 9, ISSUE 3 People use cannabis to address pain, sleep and anxiety. It is also used as an alcohol substitute. We started Naternal in 2018 to shine light on cannabis as a wellness alternative. We’ve had less than ideal experiences with pharmaceuticals. We drew the line when a doctor made an especially egregious recommendation for one of our kids. We knew cannabis oils were the better choice. We were tired of the status quo. I spent two decades as a regulatory attorney helping large companies operate in shady spaces. The cannabis industry doesn’t scare me. We had friends in the community with experience at companies such as Burt’s Bees. UNC, Duke, NC State and the Research Triangle Park were in our backyard. We launched tinctures first. We used a supply chain that started on farms near our hometown in New Bern and ended in our manufacturing facility in the Research Triangle. Then we brought on topicals. Some of the friends I mentioned above may’ve helped us out a bit there. Today, we make products covering pretty much the entire product spectrum from tinctures to gummies and creams. (And we should’ve launched beverage by the time you read this). Unfortunately, we can’t give you much advice on how our products should be used. The government has been slow to issue meaningful guidelines. However, it is quick to issue cease and desist letters to companies that make recommendations on use. The unintended consequence, as you’ve likely experienced, is a marketplace full of low-quality products and misinformation. So, for now, we simply say people use cannabis for pain, anxiety and sleep. And, of course, as an alcohol substitute. We hope you’ll give Naternal a try. If not, we hope you have already found another brand that works for you. Because cannabis definitely works. And cannabis products can be sold at prices that make sense. ...... For more information, please visit our website naternal.com
