So a strategy was put in place that stressed growing the city fromwithin while supporting local business and industry. “We’re the de facto economic development organi- zation for the city and the county,” says Maynard.“We are charged with creating the economic development activities, such as marketing and the other things that go along with job creation in the region.My job as an economic developer is to growOxford without screwing it up,”he adds, facetiously. The North Mississippi Regional Center (NMRC) in Oxford, MS operates under authority of the State Department of Mental Health to pro- vide an array of services to citizens with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in the northern 23 counties of Mississippi. The NMRC is licensed as an Inter- mediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmen- tal Disabilities (ICF/IID). NMRC provides diagnostic and evaluation services, training, rehabilitation, medical and residential care, as well as many other special services on the main campus. All services offered by NMRC are representative of evidence based practices and a person centered approach. The Center also provides 24-hour care to individuals living on the Oxford campus and in 20 ICF/IID communi- ty homes across north Mississippi. NMRC assists over 1,500 citizens through a comprehensive array of community based services.
