G T myComply has established itself as a pioneering force in workforce management, specializing in the seamless tracking of compliance, safety requirements, and critical documentation for job sites. Initially carving out a niche in the commercial construction sector, myComply has broadened its reach to include mining and industrial environments, ensuring safety and efficiency across various high-risk industries. CEO Mark Wolff describes myComply as a workforce management platform that captures and monitors vital information about workers and subcontractors on job sites. “We track everything from certificates of insurance and site safety plans for subcontractors to compliance and safety requirements for individual workers,” 2 BUSINESS VIEW MAGAZINE VOLUME 11, ISSUE 08

he explains. The platform extends its capabilities to include tracking time and attendance, demographic data, and forms generated by workforce activities, such as pre-shift meeting forms and incident reports. “We aim to be the central source of truth for ensuring compliance with safety training and project plans,” he adds. Greg Reimche, COO, provides insight into the company’s origins and growth trajectory. “The idea for myComply emerged about eight years ago when Mark and I noticed a significant lag in construction and mining technology, particularly in software for tracking worker certification and safety,” he recalls. Leveraging their engineering and project management backgrounds, they saw an opportunity to fill this gap and enhance site safety through innovative software solutions. Despite rapid growth, myComply has maintained financial independence, primarily through selffunding and a few private investments. “We don’t rely on private equity or venture capital, which allows us to stay customer-focused and financially stable,” Reimche emphasizes. This independence has empowered them to prioritize user feedback in their development process. “We’re constantly polling our customers for features and feedback, integrating their needs directly into our development roadmap,” he says. At the core of myComply’s philosophy is delivering exceptional customer experiences and a positive team culture. “We lead with honesty and integrity, always focusing on the best possible customer experience,” Reimche states. This customer-centric approach is complemented by a strong emphasis on relationship-building and collaboration. “We listen to our users, and if a feature can enhance safety and efficiency, we build it,” he asserts. REVOLUTIONIZING WORKFORCE MANAGEMENT THROUGH TECHNOLOGY myComply has positioned itself as a frontrunner in leveraging innovative technology to address longstanding challenges in workforce management, particularly in the construction and industrial sectors. Wolff highlights this transformation: “The construction and industrial industry has historically lagged with the implementation of technologies, but that has been increasing over the past few years. Some of that has to do with COVID and workforce shortages.” myComply seized this opportunity to offer a solution tailored to the specific needs of these industries. “We break things down to an individually centric profile that is a worker,” he explains, comparing it to platforms like Facebook or LinkedIn. This approach allows for a detailed aggregation of a worker’s training, safety records, and personal attributes, creating a comprehensive and portable profile that can travel with the worker across different employers and job sites. Once these profiles are created, myComply’s platform links safety data with insurance requirements. “By 3 BUSINESS VIEW MAGAZINE VOLUME 11, ISSUE 08 myComply

says. This proactive approach to safety benefits the workers and provides tangible financial advantages. “We’ve worked with insurance underwriters who can reduce premiums if an entity leverages the myComply platform,” he states. ENHANCING SAFETY IN THE MINING SECTOR As myComply continues to expand its influence, the mining sector stands out as a critical area where its technology has significantly impacted. Rylan Spencer, Head of Mining, Energy & Facilities for the company’s mining arm, shares insights into myComply’s application in mining. “Using myComply in mining is about ensuring you know who’s on-site and that they’re qualified and trained every day, not just your direct employees, but contractors and sub-trades,” he explains. This comprehensive tracking is facilitated by the platform’s suite of tools and features, including site access control hardware. Spencer’s extensive background in contract mining, particularly in Saskatchewan’s potash and uranium sectors, has equipped him with invaluable knowledge that he brings to his role at myComply. He notes the evolution of health and safety practices in mining over the past decade.“Mining has come a long way in health and safety practices, but there’s still a gap that needs to be filled,” he observes. By applying the same methodologies that have proven effective in construction, myComply aims to bridge this gap in mining. High-profile safety incidents have heightened awareness and urgency around improving safety standards. “Everyone’s talking about AI and autonomous vehicles in mining,” Spencer mentions. While these technologies reduce human exposure to dangerous zones, they do not eliminate the need for on-site personnel.“Having a system like myComply ensures that everyone on site has up-to-date training and qualifications, even for operating autonomous vehicles from remote locations,” he emphasizes. Spencer envisions myComply’s role in fostering industry-wide improvements. “We’re developing new features and tools that will benefit the entire mining industry, not just specific mines,” he states. having a central source of truth and real-time reporting, our platform can be monitored from an insurance point of view,” Wolff points out. This capability is vital for maintaining compliance and reducing risks.“If you ensure everybody has a driver’s license, you’re going to have fewer accidents on the road,” he adds, drawing a parallel to the importance of continuous compliance monitoring in construction and industrial settings. In practice, myComply helps ensure that workers’ training and certifications are always current, even as they move between projects or employers. The platform also supports adherence to safety programs through daily shift meetings and toolbox talks.“We are reducing injuries, lost time, and fatalities and mitigating the associated legal consequences,” Wolff 4 BUSINESS VIEW MAGAZINE VOLUME 11, ISSUE 08

Driven by a passion for the betterment of mining, he highlights the broader mission. “I want to see safer sites, not just in Canada or the US, but worldwide,” he asserts.“myComply helps ensure everyone is trained, qualified, and safe daily, so they go home to their families and friends at the end of every shift.” TRANSFORMATIVE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT IN CONSTRUCTION myComply’s integration into the workforce development sector showcases how their technology is enhancing safety and reshaping how training and compliance are managed on a grand scale. This is exemplified through their involvement in the City of New York’s Site Safety Training initiative. In partnership with the city, myComply developed the Training Connect platform, which integrates seamlessly with myComply’s primary system. This platform is utilized by 165 course providers to create profiles for construction workers, ensuring that training data is accurately tracked and accessible. “The City of New York’s Department of Buildings estimated there would be 150,000 registered workers, but we now have 400,000 workers in the system,” Wolff reveals. The implementation included issuing NFC-enabled cards to workers that store their training information, similar to credit cards. “These cards have been tapped, and their training verified, over 20 million times since implementation,” Wolff notes. This system has revolutionized compliance on job sites, with the fatality rate in New York City construction dropping by 45% in the past 12 months, a remarkable achievement considering the historically stagnant fatality rates. 5 BUSINESS VIEW MAGAZINE VOLUME 11, ISSUE 08 myComply

myComply’s approach to workforce development ensures that workers’ training profiles are portable, allowing their credentials to move from job to job. This portability is crucial for maintaining an upto-date, qualified workforce. “Workers entering the workforce are getting their training, and there’s access to data to ensure ongoing development,” Wolff says. The success of this initiative emphasizes the importance of having a developed, verifiable workforce in attracting and securing investment. “Investors want to ensure a qualified workforce can be assembled,” Wolff asserts. This capability, paired with the necessary equipment and materials, facilitates the construction of any project, proving that workforce development and training are critical components for industry growth and safety. CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT WHILE PROMOTING DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION The technological advancements spearheaded by myComply extend beyond essential compliance, enabling continuous workforce training and development. Wolff elaborates on this process. “We started with a base minimum amount of training for job sites, such as 40 hours of initial training, including OSHA, fall protection, and drug and alcohol courses. These cards must be renewed every five years, tying into refresher courses. It’s all about continual development and refreshers.” The platform has evolved to include all types of training, allowing the industry to dictate the specifics.“From a technology perspective, it’s just a piece of data that we house and provide access to. Our user base decides what to track and the frequency of refreshers,” Wolff adds. Mark Wolff, CEO Greg Reimche, COO 7 BUSINESS VIEW MAGAZINE VOLUME 11, ISSUE 08 myComply

myComply’s influence also extends to fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce.Wolff reveals a recent partnership: “We have a professional partnership with ALL3 Innovation, which includes Birch Narrow Dene Development Inc., Superior Strategies, and the MMKL Group. This indigenous partnership started in November 2023.” With this collaboration, myComply can track workforce demographics, providing realtime data highlighting inclusion targets. “This feature allows organizations to show how they are meeting inclusion targets,” Wolff explains. The data points can cover various demographics such as sex, ethnicity, and residence. “For instance, if there are inclusion targets for northern residents or Indigenous workers, myComply’s reporting can verify and highlight that these goals are being met,” he says. THE FUTURE OF MYCOMPLY: INNOVATION AND EXPANSION myComply’s leadership team shares a unified vision for the platform’s evolution over the next 18 months, focusing on leveraging technology to enhance workforce safety and efficiency. Wolff begins by outlining his high-level perspective as CEO. “We are seeing technology adoption within the various construction verticals increasing. We aim to continue working with insurance providers, large construction companies, and various governing bodies to create comprehensive worker profiles accessible by the industry,” Wolff says. He highlights the importance of data standards in harnessing the power of machine learning and AI.“Massive amounts of standardized data are essential for improving machine learning outcomes. To leverage AI for better results, we break it down to worker attributes, training, and job site activities.” On the operational front, Reimche is focusing on fostering a productive and cohesive team environment.“As the team grows, it’s important for us to have a happy, productive team,” he asserts. Hiring individuals who align with myComply’s core values is crucial.“We have a pretty big in-house development team and focus heavily on improving our software through user feedback.” The team is expanding the platform’s features, including more detailed tracking of attributes and enhancing executive-level reporting. “We’re also developing more enterpriselevel features, which is increasingly important for our growing number of enterprise clients, especially when tied back to the insurance aspect,” he adds. Spencer, drawing from his extensive experience in mining, is passionate about closing the gap in health and safety practices.“I want to do everything we can to help close that gap and fill the void in health and safety,” he states. Overcoming the fear of adopting new technology is a significant hurdle, but he believes in myComply’s potential to streamline processes and improve efficiency.“Just because you’ve been doing something the same way for two decades doesn’t mean it’s the best way today. New technologies can ensure better work quality and safety on site.” As myComply continues to innovate and expand its Ryan Spencer, Head of Mining 8 BUSINESS VIEW MAGAZINE VOLUME 11, ISSUE 08
