Officially formed from Lawrence County on October 20, 1820, it was named in honor of the Declaration of Independence. The municipality proudly celebrates its legacy while simultaneously preparing for its future. Its largest town of Batesville is also the county seat and travellers come from far and wide to have fun at places like the Batesville Motor Speedway and Blanchard Springs Caverns.
