THROUGH THE LENS OF MY FRIENDS has been a passion project for Humtown CEO Mark Lamoncha since launching the company’s additive facility a decade ago. Its goal is to expose young adults to 3D printing while inspiring them to pursue careers in modern manufacturing. The key innovation? Peer-to-peer learning. Each tour begins with two students receiving a hands-on experience at Humtown Additive, where they follow the full process of creating 3D-printed sand cores and molds—from setting up digital files to final packaging. They ask questions, gain insights, and then take on the role of tour guides, sharing their newfound knowledge with fellow students. This unique approach makes manufacturing relatable, engaging, and exciting. Boardman Local School District is among the many schools that have participated, with students gaining firsthand exposure to cutting-edge technology. As a takeaway, students receive a sand print of their own, connecting them even more to the experience.
